For some reason, Pink P!!!nk!! is very very popular in Australia.

On her past two tours she has sold out considerably large arenas, even booking something like a ten night run in Melbourne.

There is a point to this; how is it that someone so incredibly untalented can be so successful?

P!!!!nk (nee Alecia Moore – obviously her parents were devout Morans like herself to spell Alicia that way) is astoundingly unattractive, has a voice that wouldn’t pass muster at an Idol audition and doesn’t play any instruments well (I have seen her with a guitar hanging off her – she can barely strum it).

So what is it? Is she an under-estimated songwriter? Quite the opposite, virtually every track on every album  is co-written by a known “hands-on” producer or writer-for-hire (Linda Perry, Billy Mann, Butch Walker, Max Martin).

I think the key to success lies in the gimmick her label has created around her, that of the ‘bad girl’, the ‘rebel’.

The public latch onto this, feeling that in some way they can aspire to adopt her seemingly rebellious attitude in doses and discard the formalities of modern life. This is evidenced in everything she does, the style of music, the content of her videos, the concert format, promotional pics etc.

I  find it HILARIOUS that Pink has seen fit to diss others such as Britney Spears as untalented and/or marketed rubbish, when she herself is pretty much the same thing. The only thing different is their gimmicks; Pink is the “rebel”, Britney the onetime beautiful innocent, now seductress/party girl.

In any case, I suppose my contempt applies both to Pink herself for her ‘holier than thou’ attitude and inflated sense of talent, and to the mass public who swallow the marketing semen enthusiastically and usually become quite agitated when I call them on their gullibility.

Some claim to simply enjoy her songs, and yes there may be one MAYBE two which are catchy but it is important to give credit where credit is due: to her songwriting team and producers.

TL, DR: P!nk is fucking shit and I hope she gets terminal cervical cancer soon.
